Halo 4 – E3 2012 Stage Demo
Halo 4's E3 2012 Stage Demo delivered the first major look at the UNSC Infinity, the mysterious world of Requiem, and the terrifying new Promethean enemy faction. The presentation combined cinematic storytelling with live gameplay to showcase the next evolution of Master Chief's fight.
Halo 4’s E3 2012 Stage Demo was a major statement from 343 Industries, introducing players to the game’s new threats, larger scale, and stronger focus on cinematic storytelling. The presentation opens with the live-action “The Commissioning” sequence, showcasing humanity’s pride in the massive UNSC Infinity before everything goes catastrophically wrong when an unknown Forerunner force drags the ship into Requiem. It immediately establishes the Infinity as a central part of the campaign while teasing the looming threat of the Didact.
Once gameplay begins, the spotlight shifts to Master Chief and Cortana as they track the crashing Infinity across Requiem. The demo showcases the planet’s striking environments, from dense jungles to towering Forerunner structures, while also revealing the Covenant’s continued presence. More importantly, it introduces the Prometheans, an entirely new enemy faction featuring Crawlers, Watchers, and powerful Knights. Their ability to teleport, create shields, revive allies, and even throw grenades back at the player gave Halo combat a noticeably different feel compared to previous games.
The gameplay reveal also highlights several new mechanics and weapons. Master Chief acquires Forerunner technology such as the Lightrifle and Scattershot, while new abilities like Promethean Vision expand the tactical options available in combat. The enemy encounters emphasize mobility and unpredictability, showing that the Prometheans are designed to challenge players in ways the Covenant never could. Combined with impressive visual detail and seamless transitions between cinematics and gameplay, the demo successfully sold Requiem as a mysterious and dangerous new setting.
